Tetris 1989 is the handheld version many of us first played: a grey-green LCD screen, chunky black blocks and a tiny speaker beeping on every line. The original embed of this page is gone, so it now runs a faithful Game Boy-style Tetris in a yellow “brick game” console. Seven classic pieces fall into a ten-wide well, you rotate and slide them, and every full row clears and adds to your score.
Move with the left and right arrow keys, rotate with the up arrow, speed a piece up with the down arrow and hit Space to drop it at once. P pauses, S toggles the sound and R restarts. The longer you survive, the faster the pieces fall, so plan the next move early and keep the stack low. For other takes on the same idea try Tetris Battle or Tetris 1.
